The Best Things in Life Are FREE

For my 28th birthday, I decided to go on an adventure to give people opportunities to celebrate with me. To do this, I did a bit of research to find as many places as possible that give “birthday gifts” and made an excursion to find all things free. I began my big day with a Denny’s Grand Slam breakfast. Can’t say I have EVER eaten at Denny’s by choice but there is such a thing as “Free Lunch” on very rare occasions and I am not one to pass such a gift up!

Next I was off to Olympus Korean Day Spa where they gave me a free day pass. This is an establishment that requires you to get down to your birthday suit…and I cannot think of a more appropriate thing to do on your birthday.

No peeking….

Sweating out your impurities in an herbal sauna can build quite the appetite so I headed to Benihana’s for some free hibachi scallops. Here I am posing with Miguel, my Japanese chef.

$0.00 is my favorite price!!

Around the corner from Benihana’s is Sephora, where they give the Birthday girl a free birthday make-up kit. Now those who know me know I don’t wear make up more than twice a year but hey….if they want to give me a gift, it would be rude to turn it down.

What birthday would be complete without ice cream? So I found my way to Cold Stone Creamery for my free creation. At this point in the day my stomach was starting to turn from all this food…but you only get one birthday a year so I persevered.

Next I stopped by World Market, one of my favorite eclectic stores, to use the $10 gift card they sent me over email to celebrate and picked up a hat.

I finished the day with a free bread pudding (and a laxative) from Famous Dave’s.

It was a great day. And this list barely scratches the surface of all the things you can get free on your special day. While there is just one birthday a year and it should be taken full advantage of, there are only 24 hours in that day to get it all done so you have to be selective.

Who would have thought there were so many things that could be yours simply because you were born? I think this truth applies on the other 364 days of the year as well. I think God has given us gifts, blessings, and callings simply because we were born. Yet, so often we don’t claim the gifts He has given us simply because we don’t recognize they are ours to claim. Magnificence, joy, love, peace, and wisdom are presents offered to us each day but it is up to us to retrieve them. We were each born with a unique gift of a purpose, wrapped up in our hearts waiting to be opened so the world will benefit. How many free gifts are you enjoying and how many are you missing simply because you haven’t claimed them?

All in all it was a fabulous birthday filled with free things. At the end of the day though, friends are always more fun and the best free gifts of all.

Kim, this post was amazing! I’m so glad you had fun on your birthday and got to take advantage of all the great free things Seattle has to offer. Thanks also for the word of wisdom and insight. I especially liked how you dropped a word of knowledge before showing a picture of your friends trying to hoist you up a stripper pole. Haha Love you girlie!
